Kathleen Smith is a seasoned Montessori teacher living in southwestern Ontario. With an art and writing background, she sought to fill what she saw as a gap in the availability of beginning readers that both fit the Montessori curriculum, and would entice the budding reader. The Over the Threshold reader series is text appropriate for the very beginning beginner, yet charming and fast-paced with a dash of humour.
Used initially in her own classroom, Kathleen found that the readers were a sure footed first step on the journey to reading, while the children delighted in the lively story lines and characters. After years of proving their worth with her students, the readers have now been published for a broader spectrum of new readers in the classroom and at home.
This also opened the door to all the songs and stories she had written over the years for her students, children and grandchildren. Her creativity and love of life is contagious and ready to tickle the fancy of children everywhere.
